Numerical solution of the Helmholtz equation with high wavenumbers
This paper investigates the pollution effect, and explores the feasibility of a local spectral method, the discrete singular convolution (DSC) algorithm for solving the Helmholtz equation with high wavenumbers. Fourier analysis is employed to study the dispersive error of the DSC algorithm. Our analysis of dispersive errors indicates that the DSC algorithm yields a dispersion vanishing scheme. ...
متن کاملNumerical Solution for the Helmholtz Equation with Mixed Boundary Condition
We consider the numerical solution for the Helmholtz equation in R with mixed boundary conditions. The solvability of this mixed boundary value problem is established by the boundary integral equation method. Based on the Green formula, we express the solution in terms of the boundary data. The key to the numerical realization of this method is the computation of weakly singular integrals. Nume...
متن کاملNumerical solution of the nonlinear Helmholtz equation using nonorthogonal expansions
In [J. Comput. Phys. 171 (2001) 632–677] we developed a fourth-order numerical method for solving the nonlinear Helmholtz equation which governs the propagation of time-harmonic laser beams in media with a Kerr-type nonlinearity. A key element of the algorithm was a new nonlocal two-way artificial boundary condition (ABC), set in the direction of beam propagation. This two-way ABC provided for ...
متن کاملA fast numerical solution for the first kind boundary integral equation for the Helmholtz equation
The main purpose of this paper is to develop a fast numerical method for solving the first kind boundary integral equation, arising from the two-dimensional interior Dirichlet boundary value problem for the Helmholtz equation with a smooth boundary. This method leads to a fully discrete linear system with a sparse coefficient matrix. We observe that it requires a nearly linear computational cos...
متن کاملNumerical Solution of Helmholtz Equation by Boundary Elements Method
Boundary elements method is well-suited for computational acoustics. The main profit it brings is reduction in number of unknowns compared to FEM. However, application of BEM to sound scattering problems has shown, that this advantage is lost in case of high frequency waves. High frequencies require larger number of elements which contradicts the initial purpose of using BEM in solvers and may ...
